Widsets - Widgets For Your Mobile

A very cool application has been released today (in beta) which lets you put widgets on your phone.

Widsets Widsets is a cool new Java (MIDP) application which brings widgets to your mobile phone (similar to konfabulator/Apple dashboard widgets). It's been released today, but I've had the chance to play with it for the past couple of days, and I'm impressed.

It's free, and although it's written in Java it's surprisingly quick and looks fantastic. The transition animations are smooth, the interface is well thought out, and the synchronisation speed is pretty impressive too. On my 6680 it looks like a native S60 application.

It's not perfect. The news widgets don't take you to a browser once you've read the brief summary from the RSS feed, and a lot of the RSS feeds to choose from just have the generic RSS icon, but I'm sure those little problem will be ironed out pretty soon.

Overall, I'd recommend everyone with a compatible mobile and a cheap/unlimited data subscription should try this out. I regularly view Digg, The Register, Engadget, Lifehacker and a few other techie news sites, so it's great for that.

I've been using Widsets for a couple of weeks now and it's great. There are still a few glitches, and it hasn't got a nice large icon for the new E70's hires screen, but it's a cool app!
