Petition against UK road tax changes

Join the petition to stop the UK implementing changes to the road tax system to charge drivers per mile.

The idea of the ammended road tax changes will mean that everyone will be charged for the distance they travel. For instance, driving on an infrequently used country road may cost 2p per mile, while driving on a heavily used road such as the A14 may be priced nearer 2431.00 a mile.

How will they ensure you submit the mileage correctly? Presumably by placing a GPS tracker in your car. This will either have to feed live data to a central administration system, or the data will need to be collected at regular intervals, perhaps during the MOT.

I doubt the government will be paying to have these devices installed into every car in the UK, so I'm guessing they're going to pass this charge onto every driver by way of a mandatory charge.

If you disagree with this system, consider signing this petition, on the Prime Minister's site. It couldn't hurt.

we already pay far to much tax in this country as it is and how much will we have to pay to set this system up? People like me who have to travel 40 miles each way just to get to work will end up losing our job's because we can't afford to even get to work and some companies will go bankrupt all because of this new bad system!!

I am against all kinds of taxes not just road taxes. I want them all removed and completely finished. The government makes money through hundreds of projects and does not need our money.
